Large wall object in ash.
This piece was once a large ash tree. The object is made from the stem of the tree and is made of one single piece of ash. The three visual rings accentuate the woodgrain and the wavelike shape in the object.
The split on the bottom right side gives this object tension, it was already in the wood when I started turning it. It is a 'dry crack' that makes room in the wood as it dries. It will not crack any further because the wood was dry as I started and because it is been fixated on the back of the piece by an inlayed butterfly (not in sight when hung on the wall, but shown in one of the photo's of the back of this object).
In the last picture, you can see a wall of bricks in the background, this is to give some idea of scale.
If you are interested in this piece, don't hesitate to email me and make an appointment to view the object in my studio.
Turned on the lathe.
Finished with a flat/ matt finish which makes it look almost untreated.
Wall sculpture (ash, 90 cm)
Size: ca. 90 x 90 x 8cm
Material: Ash
Finish: a matt varnish, (almost) invisible.
Easy to hang, simply on a well-fixed screw in the wall.
Wood is a wonderful and natural material. It will always change colour over time slightly. Do not place an object in a spot where it will be in direct sunlight, this can result in an unbalanced or too much colour change in the wood.
Can be cleaned with a dry or slightly moist cloth
